HANTA

This is a story about those who search for liberty. This is also the story of those who remain silent, who imprison, who kill. And as always, they destroy thousands of books, books that contain stories and lives. It’s also about how ideas and life resist oppression and arise again, like plants growing in the cracks of a wall. This is also the conflict between simple beauty of life and the ambition of a progress at any cost that crashes individual dreams.

Synopsis

In 1968 the writer Bohumil is censored when he is in the prime of his career. To save himself, he pretends to obey the current government while secretly writing a novel starring Hanta, an old presser of censored books. Bohumil’s reality and Hanta’s fiction intertwine in the midst of a dangerous context for both of them, from which they will only manage to free themselves through death.
